The Stone Room
Warm walls and a calm double bed, a quiet place to land after a day in the old city.
A yellow-stone mansion built for Akile Hanım, now a small hotel inside the Venetian walls of old Nicosia.
Mehmet Küçük, father of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, built this yellow-stone mansion for his daughter Akile Hanım. Its materials and furnishings came from Egypt, and it was finished in 1931.
Akile Hanım married the teacher Turgut Arca here, raised four children and lived here until her last years. Known for her hospitality, she always had a house full of guests. Her brother’s mansion, now the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum, stands on the same avenue.
Her great-granddaughter Sümer Siber and her husband Cemal Gülercan restored the konak true to its original and opened it as a boutique hotel in 2019.
The brother and sister’s conversations over coffee in this house still hold a special place in the family’s memories.
